Many were the Ham-Kam supporters that dreamt of three points and a giant leap out of the relegation turmoil, but Rosenborg, with eight wins in a row, needed the points to recapture the throne of Norwegian football.

A draw was a fair result in this match. Ham-Kam can live with that, Rosenborg can live with that, Rosenborg`s toughest competitor, Brann can live with that, and Ham-Kam`s toughest opponents on the opposite side of the league table, can live with that. In other words; nothing is clarified at either ends of the league table. Ham-Kam have the best position among the teams fighting to retain their place among the top 14 in the kingdom, and Rosenborg are three points ahead of rivals Brann from Bergen.

Rosenborg were well balanced in defence, and were always dagerous on break downs. A well prepared Ham-Kam were eager to give Rosenborg reasons for fearing them at Briskebyen. From last match against Vålerenga, Ham-Kam had made one change; Roman Kienast replaced Espen Olsen in the starting line-up.

Rosenborg had their first chance as Steffen Iversen tested Ivar Rønningen`s goalkeeping skills. Rønningen proved his skills with a brilliant save. Just after this Ham-Kam made their first substitution, when Steve Cooreman felt the injury he struggled with last week. Vegard Bjerke replaced him.

Then, Rosenborg-defender Koppinen tested Rønningen, like Iversen did minutes earlier. Rønningen denied Koppinen, as he had denied Iversen. In spite of two good Rosenborg- attempts the first fifteen minutes of the match, Ham-Kam were at the same level as their guests.

After 30 minutes, Ham-Kam had their first big chance, as Roman Kienast cut loose. Only Rosenborg`s Swedish full back Michael Dorsin`s hand could stop Kienast from scoring. Lucky for Rosenborg, neither the referee nor his team saw what happened, and Ham-Kam were cheated from a penalty kick.

A few minutes later, Markus Ringberg was fouled by Christer Basma within the penalty-area, and this time referee Brage Sandmoen pointed towards the 8 metre spot. Roman Kienast pinned the ball into the net, and Ham-Kam were 1-0 up. Shortly after this, the young Austrian could have made his second goal, as he headed from 7-8 metres. Unfortunately for him and for Ham-Kam, he didn`t manage to score after Marius Gullerud`s brilliant raid and crosser.

Rosenborg`s perpeetum mobile, Roar strand ended an up-tempo first half with a good attempt to lure Ivar Rønningen. Note: "attempt"....

Ten minutes into the second half, Jan Michaelsen lost the ball near he midfield, and Rosenborg started one of their famous break-downs. Ham-Kam`s central defender, Joachim Sørum lost hi balance, and Ramiro Corrales could not deny Jan Gunnar Solli a rare goal. 1-1 at Briskeby.

Rosenborg`s dominance continued for a few minutes, before Kamma managed to turn the match. Kienast proved his wonderful technique, and put up Tommy Øren. The latter could not score, and "1-1" was still on the missing score board.

Ham-Kam dominated the period to come, and this did not change until the light feeted Michael Jamtfall entered the pitch for Rosenborg. He had two chances within 15 minutes, both of them possibilities to take the gold medals to Trondheim (as usual.)

Ten minutes before full time, Espen Olsen replaced an exhausted Roman Kienast, thus speeding up Ham-Kam`s attack. The combination Olsen/Ringberg, that was so successful last season, showed proof of earlier successes, and a good Rinberg-finish was only stopped by an even better Hirschfeld-finish.

Thus, the match ended 1-1, a fair result.
